The logo, or badge as it is known in Europe, is part of the identity of any football (soccer) club, along with its name. The Rio Grande Valley's name and logo were unveiled on December 10, 2008, during a gala press conference in which the club also named its first Technical Director (Head Coach), Ismael Moreira Braga.
Several elements must be taken into consideration when choosing a name for a professional sports organization. The team name should be unique, versatile and represent the area where it will play.
As a result, the name Rio Grande Valley Bravos F.C., or RGV Bravos F.C., was chosen by the team's managing firm, ARSA Soccer Adventures, LLC.
The RGV Bravos F.C. was chosen over several other names such as RGV United, Vaqueros (Cowboys), Venom, Scorpions, and Correcaminos (Roadrunners), to name a few, because of what the name represents in this border area.
The name Bravos is not in reference to Native Americans, but the Spanish name for the Rio Grande on the Mexican side of the border.
One of the philosophies of the RGV Bravos F.C. is that it is not only the Valley's team, but also Northern Tamaulipas, Mexico's club as well. The RGV portion of the name refers to the American side, while Bravos takes into consideration the Mexican heritage that is predominant in the Rio Grande Valley, and is a reflection of the area's mixture of cultures.
The classic-looking badge resembles that of several clubs around the world, which gives it a traditional feel, while the blue and gold are the team colors. The transparent soccer ball is a USL requirement in the badges of all its clubs, which in the Bravos' case has a subtle effect behind the joining of the Pecos River and the Rio Grande/Bravo.
